  1. Jonathan,

Congratulations on all of the excellent reviews. I wanted to take a moment to express my love for the game as well. It’s beautiful, challenging (both mentally and emotionally), and incredibly moving.

    The adulation is well deserved.

  2. I usually go to the Gamespot for reviews, but I bought Braid just because I loved the Trial so much. I just finished it, and it was one of the best games I’ve played in years. I usually end up looking up the answers to puzzle games because I get too frustrated, but this game had such rewarding solutions I made it through without much help.

Oh, and the last level was *incredible*. My jaw dropped. Thanks for such an excellent game…hope to see more from you!

  3. This great family review of braid just went up too:
    http://www.gamepeople.co.uk/family_360_braid.htm

“Braid punches through many of the walls that have held platform games captive all these years.”

“Braid is a 3D platformer where the third dimension is time rather than depth. Confused yet? Playing the game may not make things much clearer, but it certainly convinces that a fresh perspective and some imaginative execution is all it takes to reinvigorate a tired genre.”

Also the Parent’s Guide was also published:
    http://www.gamepeople.co.uk/familyguide_360_braid.htm

“It’s apt that you collect and arrange puzzle pieces in the game as it creates an experience that has a lot in common with rainy days huddled around the dining room table pointing out which piece should go where.”

  4. Also meant to say well done on all your scores. Headed for the big time me thinks! Excellent work.

  5. excellent Joob
    Jonathan Blow
I Hope It will come to the PC
soon,so I could buy it and try it myself,
will it be distribute trhogh steam and other service?

  6. Thank you so much!
Braid is everything I thought it would be when following the process of development.
I hope it sells tons and tons and allows you to create the next, mind expanding game.
Thanks, seriously, this really helps me to keep working on games, since I know better times are just around the corner, outside of the cage of AAA and artificial rewards our industry is trapped in.

  7. Hi! I already played Braid on X360 and loved the design and the wonderful puzzles.

And surely I’ll write about the game on my site. But can I ask for some help? I can’t capture the screen of Xbox 360, so I can’t illustrate the article (I won’t use a camera, right? :)). Can you post some cool screenshoots and publish it on the site?

Thank you for making a gem like Braid. I can’t wait to play the sequel!

  8. Jonathan,

In the credits you give special thanks to David Lynch. Is that David Lynch the Director of such work as Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Lost Highway? He is my favorite movie director and I could see his dream like work inspiring you.

Enjoying Braid. I’ve been completing one world a day (including puzzles). Thanks for such a great game.

  9. Thank you very much, Jonathan Blow. The compelling themes and stories in this game, combined with the satisfying puzzles, make Braid the first game in two decades to evoke the same thrills and emotions that I had playing the best Infocom games.

I thought those days were lost forever. Thank you for giving me a powerful rewind button.

  10. Grats on the reviews! I wast most surprised by Braid myself: when they showed a very short fragment at the E3 pressconference I thought “well, that looks like crap”. Especially ironic because artistically this is one of THE most beautiful games on xbox live.
I tried the demo….bought the full version half an hour later (despite the relatively high price)…then started cursing as it was already 4 am and I had to get up at 6.30.
Now, I do have a question: is there any high res art we can download somewhere? I would love to make a nice wallpaper and maybe even some pc icon sets.

  11. Congratulations again.

Just one question – it’s kinda about the ending so I’m trying to word it not to be a spoiler. Are we meant to infer that the character (but not the player) already knows what happens in Braid?

  12. I’ve just heard of Braid for the first time 5 minutes ago, but I’m already really looking forward to the pc version !

  13. Thank you!

    Really!

Games that have made me rethink and redefine games as a medium and an art form: Tie Fighter, Day of The Tentacle, Planescape: Torment, Psychonauts, Portal and Braid.

I am thinking of punching personally everyone, who won’t play the game.

  14. This is a most impressive accolade. I’m pretty sure GameSpot has never given an XBLA game more than a 9 (e.g. Geometry Wars 2, Puzzle Quest)! Congratulations!

  15. If you, Jonathan Blow, can guarantee the game won’t drop in price in the next three months, I’ll buy the game.

  16. I can imagine this has been said numerous times before, but I really wish this game was coming out for PS3. I don’t own an Xbox 360, so unfortunately I’ll be missing out on this title. I literally have $15.00 burning a hole in my pocket wishing it was out on the PSN. =(

  17. I’ll make a sales post tomorrow, after I can look at what’s been going on Friday night — it will matter a lot to the character of the post.

Hostile: Any price drop would probably be tied to a small promotion that Microsoft does; I have no idea when this would occur, but I find it extremely unlikely that it would be within 3 months. If I were to guess, I would say any price drop would happen in 2009 sometime. But I don’t know.

  18. Congratulations on your launch guys, and your awesome reviews. We’re glad to be on the “Summer of Arcade” lineup with you guys.

  19. The price is too low. I refuse to pay less than $40 for it!

(Not really — I don’t have a 360 — but $15 is more than cheap enough for a good, meaningful game. Look at all the senseless garbage that sells for $50 at retail every day.)

  20. I’m very exciting for the PC version… I hope it will have STEAM achievements and some extra content too.

  21. The bit about XBLA certification is probably to do with rules like the title safezone (which I noticed Braid didn’t have) and other various UI rules..

  22. Braid does have a title safe zone.

I don’t want to go into too much detail, but: all kinds of Leaderboard functionality has to be implemented when in fact it should be a core library that you just use; all kinds of user sign-in-sign-out-working-around-bugs stuff has to happen, when they could at least fix the bugs or else provide a mode for single-player games to not have to deal with that junk; weird parts of the API like users having different XUIDs when online versus offline, which makes things needlessly difficult and confusing; having their APIs refer to users by user index (which may change before you actually can make the call!) instead of XUID, which means it is in fact impossible to comply with all these requirements in the first place! — you just have to muddle through and do the best you can and program lots of failsafes. There is no reason for any of that if you could just use a damn XUID.

It goes on from there, those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.

  23. Jonathon I think I ran into a bug. I purchased the game on my Xbox. I went to my roommates Xbox in our living room and threw my hard drive on it and fired up Braid. I was a sad panda to find out that no matter what I did the game keep thinking I was in Trial mode. I didnt try redownloading the game on his Xbox but I shouldn’t have to. So I guess you can add that to the list of things to fix on a title update.

  24. Jdaman, I have experienced the same bug. Here’s a “simple” work-around.

When you start the game on the second Xbox, pause and select Unlock Full Game.
Choose Download Again (this is a tiny download, not the whole game).
When the download is complete, press B to return to Braid’s menu which is now unlocked.
Select “Exit Game”, “Yes (go to the sign-in screen) to load your current progress.

I have experienced this same issue with Puzzle Quest, you would think the Microsoft Certification process would test for this situation.
