Now that the game is out, reviews are starting to spring up more quickly. Here are the ones I became aware of today:
UltraNinjas.com: 10/10. “It’s artsy, it’s clever, it kicks your brain’s arse and it’s one of the most unique things I have ever played.”
Platform Nation: 9/10. “I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it. There’s lots to do, it reminds us of what pick up and play platform gaming is on XBLA, and is certainly enjoyable. Definitely an excellent addition Live Arcade.”
VideoGamer.com: 9/10 “Without doubt the finest, most original Xbox LIVE Arcade game to date.”
GameDaily: 9/10. “Braid’s level design is superb, with colorful, multi-scrolling levels displaying a breathtaking world. Every stage seems pulled from an art gallery, suitable for framing…. You owe it to yourself to play a game this good.”
The AVG Gamer: 9/10 “A great and unique achievement in game design.”
Just a heads up. The link to the GD review leads to VideoGamer’s.
Wonderful game!!!
Congrats, Jon. It’s great to see this getting so much positive response, particularly given your talk where you discussed whether the effort you put into the next three years of your life is worth it.
You posted the same link for videogamer.com and gamedaily.
Has any of the reviews yet used the phrase “Blow you away”?
Fixed.
I haven’t seen that phrase yet! Somehow though I am surprised, now that you mention it.

My writer that did that review loved the game. Congrats on your hit Jon
We’ve posted a review up on Nukoda giving Braid a 4/5. Love the game, it’s so ingenious in it’s puzzles, great job!

I can’t believe some reviewers gave this less than a 10/10, citing replayability as an issue. Speed run? [Spoiler Redacted]??…..thank you for 2 fun filled hours on World 2-2 Jonathon 🙂 I trust you know what I mean!!
Btw I set up a appreciation group on facebook for your game. Hope you don’t mind. Seriously this game is one of my favourite games ever. Please make some sort of sequel. I would pay anything for a sequel. The artwork, narrative, gameplay of this title is up there with Bioshock, Portal and Metal Gear Solid 4.
I only have one problem with this game. No, not the price. But the fact that it will never be fully appreciated by the gaming community. It hasn’t got a fraction of the exposure it deserves. Also, some people will turn there heads because of the price; I fully understand why it has to be priced in such a way, but some people will not.
Thank you Jonathon Blow for this truely magnificent game.
jonathan only one question, did you made this game because you have a dislike with a girl?
I picked this up on the strength of the Eurogamer 10/10 review and I have to say the 1200 points is a drop in the ocean if it will help Jonathon keep producing such sublime games. I’ve been playing computer games since Spade Invaders in the 70s and I can honestly say this is one of the most wonderful games I’ve ever played.
Congratulations! And more please!
Congrats, Braid was featured in the new Penny Arcade comic: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/8/8/your-consideration/
Congratulations on a remarkable game. Just to add to the pile: Joystick Division (Village Voice Media’s gaming blog) just posted their review as well, 5 out of 5 on their scale.
It’s at JoystickDivision.com.
More reviews on metacritic, a bunch of 10/10’s.
I was going to wait for it to come down in price to 800 points, but a couple hours ago, I decided to buy it. Mostly because of everyone, and every review, raving about how great it is.
I have to say, I am very glad that I bought it. This game is just absolutely amazing. I’m not close to finished yet, but I am just loving the game. The experiance is like no other gave I’ve played before. This game easily deserves the high review scores it has been getting.
Will there be a sequel to Braid? I hope so, this game is amazing.
