If you are fluent in a language, drop me a line.

I’m looking for a handful of volunteer playtesters to help verify that the translations of Braid into various languages are doing a good job.

Braid is in the process of being translated right now. The translators seem like they know what they are doing, so I have no explicit reason to be worried about the quality of the translations. However, it would seem weird to me to just take the translated version of the game and put it out into the world without doing some kind of due diligence on the result (especially given how many badly-translated games we have all seen!)

So if you are fluent in one of the following languages, drop a note here with a way to contact you (it doesn’t have to be public; just let it go into moderation and I will read it). And I will set you up with a playtest copy of the game. I mean seriously fluent, i.e. speaks the language like a native; not, hey, I had a couple of years of that in school.

The languages are: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese (which I guess means Mandarin non-simplified?)

Thanks!

You have my email, I hope you need my help.

    ciao!

  4. Hi. Native French speaker from Quebec, Canada, willing to help out if you need one more. I saw your speech at MIGS 2007 in Montreal and I’ve since been following the development of Braid. Cheers!

  6. I am a Spaniard and have translated profesionally: I know how difficult it can be some times to translate into Spanish that looks right from both sides of the Atlantic. Glad to help if I can.

  7. Hello πŸ™‚
I’m a native Portuguese speaker, and I have very good knowledge of the English language (which may help catching those little ‘lost in translation’ problems). If you need any help with the Portuguese version of the game, just let me know.

  8. If you need help with the Italian one, I’m willing to help. I live in Siena right now, and see that there havn’t been many responses for Italian, so I’d thought I’d offer.

  9. Hi,I was very impressed with Braid at GDC06. I’m native Japanese speaker. Send me e-mail if you need any help.

  10. Thanks everyone for all the help! As I mentioned before I will contact folks when we have the initial translations.

With languages like Russian and Hungarian… what’s going on is we are going through Microsoft’s standard translation channels, and they have a set of languages that they usually do (which I think corresponds to the set of languages supported natively in the 360 dashboard). Later on we may translate into more languages, but .. it’s expensive. So for now we are doing just what we need to release on the 360, and will expand later.

  11. I can help: I live in Canada, but my mother tongue is Italian (I was born in Rome and live in Milan most of my life). I’ve been at GDC the last three years (just came back from 2008 edition this morning) and I have seen Braid grow.

  12. Another german that will gladly help, just in case πŸ˜‰
And thanks for the awsome lectures at the GDC, especially the Experimental Gameplay Sessions were a blast.

  13. More Portuguese speakers already than I would have expected, but they’re forgetting to mention if the Portuguese they speak/write is Brazilian or European πŸ™‚

    (European here)

  14. Emm, I forgot to say that I don’t actually own a 360…
So I can’t help if what you give is a copy of the game…
    heh, sorry… :]
